Production Cougars
The all-new 1989 Cougar was front and center for Mercury’s advertising budget. Several major automotive magazines and newspapers (such as the USA Today) had prominent Cougar ads. Curiously, there wasn’t much advertising past 1991.

Mercury 50th Anniversary
For the 50th anniversary of the Mercury division at Ford, Lincoln-Mercury produced an 8-page brochure that highlighted the history of Mercury cars, but in reality it was simply disguised as a small booklet about the new advanced features and styling of the 1989 Cougar. Below are all 8 pages; each large version is full page size.

IMSA GTO Cougars
The return of the Cougar to the Lincoln-Mercury Motorsport lineup in 1989 was carefully planned and choreographed in their advertising for that year’s IMSA GTO racing season. Several magazine and newspaper ads covered the big Cat as it dominated the racing circuit for both 1989 and 1990.
